Description

Early 20th century framed print of Lon'g Peak, Colorado by Lyman Byxbe, showing the titular mountain from below across a tree lined landscape. Pencil signed and titled along the lower edge. Black beveled wood frame; white mat with black lined details.

"Lyman Byxbe is one of many great artists who have turned to the majestic Rocky Mountains for inspiration and the subject matter of their compositions. Born in Pittsfield, Illinois on Feb. 28, 1886, he began at an early age to teach himself to draw. He became a successful commercial artist in Omaha, Nebraska, where he studied the art of etching under Mark Levings, an architect. In 1938 Mr. Byxbe moved to Estes Park, Colorado, where he had a summer studio for many years. All of the artist's time and talent was devoted to copper plate etching in his mountain studio. Byxbe spent most of his career in Nebraska and Colorado. An itinerant artist, he worked all over the West, including California. He died in Estes Park, CO in March 1980." (Source: askART)
